Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. BLS is the cornerstone program for healthcare professionals.

The Basic Life Support course is designed for professionals in the health care field that work as pre-hospital or in-facility responders (e.g. ski patrol, nurses or nursing students, lifeguards, dentists, paramedics or firefighters).

Designed to build participant confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in a team environment for professionals with a duty to respond. Teaches the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

This course will certify participants for one year and will require re-certification prior to the expiry date.

Intended Audience:

This course is geared towards high performance, team-based professional-level resuscitation. You will learn the skills to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and rapid defibrillation. Airway management and oxygen therapy can be added as additional certification to this course. In-facility care providers, including nursing staff, care aides, medical and dental professionals. Pre-hospital care providers, which may include professionals in a fire service, rescue team, sports-medicine, lifeguards and ski patrol.

Current holders of CPR HCP qualify to take a Basic Life Support re-certification.

  • BLS Provider: 3.5 hours
  • BLS Renewal: 2.5 hours
  • BLS with Airway Management + Oxygen Therapy: 6 hours

Certificates are now virtual. Your certificate will be emailed to you after the course has taken place.

An e-manual is included. Hard copy manuals are available for an additional $10.00.

CPR Level HCP has been now phased out by the Canadian Red Cross. Professional pre-hospital or in-facility responders should now take Basic Life Support (BLS).
